Metal Experiment

Method

To begin with I collected the metal that I required (Rod of steel/Square bar of steel). Using a ruler and nail, I then made marking on the metal for where I will cut it into smaller parts. After these parts where cut using a hack saw, I then filed the edges down as they were rough and sharp. To join the metal together I used a welder. After this I used a file to take the weld down to the steel. I then painted the steel.

Problems

A problem I kept having while making the frame and swing arm was that the welded joints kept breaking. I had to reweld the joins and file the weld down to around a millimeter as I think the problem was cause as I filed all the weld off the steel. Another problem I had was that the paint I was stuck to the brush and was difficult to get off. To solve this, I use paint thinner and it came off the brush.

Conclusion

To conclude I think that metal is very useful material to use when creating model or part. I find that it is very strong when creating frames. As well as this, using tools and paints can change the surface of the metal which would make the material have different effects. The only major Issue I found while working with metal is that welds need to be strong or they will break. However, with practice I will be able to get good enough welds where I will reduce the amount of times it breaks. Metal will be a material I use when creating my model as I could use different types of metal to create different components that could show more details.
