The Q is a YouTube channel that makes videos based on science as well as arts and craft. A popular video featured on this channel is of an artist creating a 1.3:1 scale model of a formula 1 car constructed of only cardboard held together with glue.
When watching the video, I saw the artist use different method of bending cardboard to create specific part of the car. One method in particularly interested me. When constructing the rear wing he had used to layers of cardboard, using a knife he cut vertical line into the cardboard and glued the second layer on top. When the layers where put together but still not dry he bent it into the right shape and then held it until it dried which caused the cardboard to stay in the shape, he wanted it to be. This is a very interesting method as allows the material to flax without putting stress on the glue, so it won’t break apart. Another useful method I noticed when watching the video was his use of strips of cardboard to seal gaps. This would be useful as it would make to model seem less seamless as well as making the joints less likely to come apart which means that it is held together stronger.
Overall, I find the artist’s work useful as I am making a part of a motorcycle that is like a car’s and this artist has shown me that I am able to get high amounts of detail by only using one material. To test the amount detail, I can produce I will be creating a model using cardboard an may use some of this artists method in my own work.
