Method
I began by pushing the objects into a clay square and build a wooden wall around it. After this I cut the vinyl into small pieces and placed them in microwaveable tub. I placed the tub into a microwave till the pieces turned into liquid and poured it over the objects. When it dried, I removed I separated the mold from the clay and washed it out using warm water. After this I made a mixture of resin and poured this into the mold, leaving it to dry. When it dried, I carefully peeled the vinyl from the resin cast which resulted in a very detailed example.
Problems
A problem I faced was that it took a longer time than expected to melt the vinyl, to fix this I could cut it in to smaller pieces so that it’d melt faster. Another issue that occurred was that some of the liquid leaked out of the seams of the wooden blocks, to fix this I could use clay to seal the edges of the wall.
Conclusion
To conclude this method was simple to do, requiring few steps and produced detailed cast. The only issue was that it took long than I thought to melt the vinyl, but this could be fixed by cutting the vinyl into smaller pieces than I had done for this experiment.
